Getting rid of the plague<\/span><\/h3>\n

Lion fish is one of the most beautiful specimens among the marine fauna. Despite so, in the Mexican Caribbean it has become a plague, as it is an invasive species original from the Indo-Pacific. More than 20 years ago, a hurricane partially destroyed an aquarium in Florida and, as a consequence, 4 lion fishes escaped and got into the Caribbean waters. As this species did not belong to this ecosystem and had no natural predators here, they started to quickly reproduce and, also due to their huge voracity to feed, eating baby and young fishes from other species, the natural balance was broken in the Caribbean reefs. While the nature starts to create its own predators (sharks, groupers and morays are starting to eat them), men must help in this fight to put back the ecosystem in balance. Pepe Dive Mahahual has joined since the begginning these campaigns to control this species and offers safaris to capture Lion fish in Mahahual, in the wildest areas of the reef.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Safari comprises 3 divings and, if the customers want to join, our guides will teach them to use \"hawaianas\" (the only weapon we accept as it is the one producing the less environmental impact) to capture lion fishes. Back from the safari, in the evening, we use to prepare a delicious \"ceviche\" to taste ad celebrate the catch of the day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
